It Is A Must: Self-Awareness

I ought to post this about 2 to 3 weeks ago but I just didn't have enough time to write.

We attended a seminar about self-awareness. At first I thought I wouldn't like the topic because the idea had develop in my mind that self-awareness is knowing yourself and accepting our mistakes or admit that we are wrong some times or most of the time.

Instead it dwelt on more positive things and principles or beliefs that I find acceptable or agreeable.

I am going to start with my notes.

(1) If you don't know who you are, that's dangerous.

It's dangerous because you don't know what you are capable of. You are not aware of what you can do, good or bad. So if you get into trouble, how are you going to defend yourself or justify yourself. Another thing is if you don't know yourself you don't know what you want, you don't know what your path is, and your life has no direction.

(2) You can only focus, be intentional because you are aware.

When you are aware, you are engaged; you become one body, one mind, and one soul. What you watch, what you listen to, is what you energized, you are aware. What you think, you feel. What you feel you do. What you do is where your mind, body, and soul is. That is you, you are aware. That is why it is important that a person comes after his passion.

(3) Papers does not make me.

Now this just focuses on the fact that when we finish something we get a certificate but those certificate doesn't mean anything. What matters is what we can do, and what we are capable of.

(4) Self-Awareness is questioning yourself.

For someone to get the complete view of the whole human being, you liberate yourself. By integrating your body, mind, and soul you immense yourself to different unfamiliar teritories then you question yourself. You rationalize, you analyze the implications, and you wonder about it's possibility and probability.

(5) It is in due time to be in integrity.

To be integrity, you feel, you sync, you and do.

You can create your destiny, you can become what you want to be, you just have to make a decision and choice. Example of this "I decided to take up nursing by virtue of circumstances." Then here is another example "It is my choice to become a cardiology doctor." Deciding is entirely different from choice.

High levelness of self is wanting something, choosing it, and doing something about it out of choice.

(6) Associate with people who are winners and optimists.

Stay away from the people who brings you down and who doesn't believe in you.

"Winners dwell on their desires (rewards of success) not on their limitations (penalties of failure).

(7) We need humility within ourselves.

We need to have humility because it's a cycle, what is up goes down and what is down goes up. But it's okay because I have myself, I can balance it, and I can start all over again.

(8) Self-Appraisal

Dream beyond. Think of possibilities to the extreme. Thinking of what's beyond us is having faith, hoping for the impossible and trying to believe in miracles.

(9) Life is a do-it myself project. I take credit for my accomplishments and mistakes that I did.

Other people tends to always have a say on someone especially on their mistakes. What they didn't know is sometimes their comments makes a person feel sometimes not good enough. It decreases their confidence about theirselves.

(10) Positive Self-esteem

You need to learn to love yourself. Then you can give love away. How can you give without having it at all in the first place.
Tell yourself "I chose to be happy. Others may not be happy for the decisions and choices you made, but you want to be happy. Besides we all deserve to be happy.

(11) To choose "Choice" you need to be liberated.

"When you always listen to what others have to say to please them, you imprison yourself."
I did said before that we chose to be happy. This is the life we all have, we should make the most of it.

(12) Positive Self-Projection

How you walk, talk, listen and look is you.
Don't just listen to the psychology of Winning as another program. GO OUT AND DO IT.

(13) In projecting your own health conditions to others, realize that your daily conversation is the automatic readout of your thoughts and subconscious emotions.

So talking to someone really helps especially when you've got someone to listen to your stress and concerns.
(14) In dealing with children or subordinates, in addition to ensuring proper health and environment focur their attention toward the reward or benefit of being well and productive.

Being well and productive really feels good especially when the ones you are helping are the less fortunate ones.

(15) Self-Control

Carry this motto of Cause and Effect with you in every transaction - "My rewards in life, will reflect my service and contribution."

I've chosen the part that's most important. The seminar's notes is 10 pages in total.

"Knowing others is wisdom. Knowing yourself is enlightenment." - Nobel Lecture 1989 by Dalai Lama, Chinese Philosopher

  1. actually, i think this is true, it isn't easy, as life always manages to get in the way, we react in the moment and get confused sometimes...but if we all did these things...happier world! getting to know yourself is not as easy as we think...i guess it starts with being honest with ourselves...

    great post

  2. Thank you. It's not really that good but I hope it helps others.

Just like you said if we do all this, it would have been a happier world and life doesn't work easily that way. We really need to work hard on it by being honest.

  3. That sounds like an amazing seminar. I would totally be into something like that. I was raised to be very private and secretive, and endured a childhood of abuse. Now as an adult I'm in my 9th year of counseling to try to combat my learned behaviors as a child and find out who I really am and live to that.
